The short version

We store a name for each player, and an email address if there is one, so they can sign in. We keep a record of which games each person said they were playing in. That is the whole product. We do not sell anything, we do not advertise to you, and we never handle money.

Somebody added me and I never signed up

That happens, and it is worth being straight about it. An organiser sets up a game and adds the people who play in it. If that is you, whoever runs your game put your name in — they are responsible for their own squad list, and you can ask them to take you off it at any time.

You can also email info@register4football.com and we will do it.

What we store

  • Your name as the organiser typed it.
  • Your email address, if you have one on the list. Used to send sign-in links and game emails, nothing else.
  • Which games you said you were playing in or sitting out, and the reason you gave if you gave one.
  • For each of those answers: the time it was given, whether you gave it yourself or an organiser gave it for you, and the IP address, browser and device type the answer came from. Kept so that "somebody put my name down and I never said I'd play" is a question with an answer.
  • Basic sign-in records: when a link was requested and used, and the IP address it came from. Kept so we can tell a real sign-in from an attack.
  • If you use the contact form: your name, your email address, what you wrote and the IP address it came from. Kept so we can reply and so we have a record of what was asked.

There is no card number, bank account or payment field anywhere in this system — not hidden, not encrypted, not anywhere. The app cannot take a payment because it has nowhere to put one.

Who can see it

  • Your name and whether you are playing — everyone else in your game. That is the point of it.
  • Whether you have paid your subs, and whether you turned up — everyone else in your game, on the previous-games page. Settling up is something a squad does between themselves, and chasing it privately is worse for everybody than showing it plainly. It is never visible to anyone outside your game.
  • When you answered, and who answered for you — everyone else in your game, beside your name on the board. If an organiser put you down, it says so and names them.
  • Your email address — the organisers of your game, and us.
  • The IP address, browser and device an answer came from — the organisers of your game, and us. Nobody else in your game, ever. Organisers have to ask to see it and it is hidden by default, because it is only ever needed to settle a dispute about how a name got on the list.
  • People who are not in your game — they can see the fixture, how many people are playing, and how many places are left. Not names.
  • Nobody else. We do not sell or share any of it.

How long we keep it

For as long as the game runs. These games last a long time, and the record of who played is the reason people value it.

When a game is deleted it disappears immediately and is destroyed for good 30 days later. Sign-in links stop working within half an hour, and the record of them — the address and the IP address — is deleted a week after that.

The IP address attached to a registration is the exception, and it is worth being straight about: it is kept for as long as the registration is, because it is part of the record of how that name got on that list. Ask us and we will clear yours.

Getting your details removed

Ask your organiser, or email us. We remove your name and your email address permanently, and you disappear from every list, table and page.

One thing we do not do: we do not delete the fact that somebody played on a given day. If we erased those rows, every count in your game would change — how many played that week, who was ever-present that year, the biggest turnout ever — and that is other people's history, not just yours. So the appearances stay, with nothing attached to them: no name, no address, no link to any account. Nobody can tell they were yours.

Cookies

One, to keep you signed in. No advertising cookies, no analytics that follow you anywhere, nothing to click "accept" on.

The contact form is checked by Cloudflare Turnstile, so a robot cannot use it to send us thousands of messages. It was chosen over the more common Google reCAPTCHA precisely because it does not set a tracking cookie or need your consent - Cloudflare sees the request in order to run the check, and nothing follows you afterwards.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email info@register4football.com and we will sort it out. If you think we have got it wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

If you run a game

You are putting other people's names and addresses into this. Only add people who play in your game, tell them you have done it, and take them off when they ask. That is all we ask of you, and it is also what the law asks of you.
